Just a Spoonful of Sugar

Do you ever have those moments where you finally "get it"? Well, the other day, I was listening to Mary Poppins, which Mylie LOVES, as I cleaned the kitchen. I also loved this show as a kid, but had no idea what the spoonful of sugar thing was all about. I figured it was really about giving them their medicine more easily. She's the babysitter, right? She probably has to do that.

This time, however, I got it. It says, "In every task that's to be done, there is an element of fun." I'm not sure I completely agree with that. There are many tasks that, as a mother, I find little or NO fun in. However, there are some "spoonfuls of sugar" that I use to "help the medicine go down." One is Oprah. Although I don't get to do this very often, if I'm home at 4pm-5pm, I will listen to Oprah while I prepare dinner or dust, or even clean bathrooms--I just turn it up a little louder. But still, I need some more ideas. Do you have any magic "spoonsful of sugar" that help the medicine of being a maid go down a little more smoothly? I love being a mom--hate being a maid. But maybe I'm just missing something? Please share!!

When I clean I must confess that I turn the music up really load and sing and dance my way around my house. My kids just look at me like I am crazy. Also if I am looking to make the cleaning go faster I call one of my sisters and use the hands-free on my phone.

Taffy,
I'm glad I'm not the only one who hates being a maid---I often use the following phrase after a long day of cleaning and laundry, "What do you think I am, a maid?"
I mean I realize that as the stay at home this is kind of my job. . .but is it too much to ask if clothes get to the dirty clothes basket and I don't have to guess, or for dishes to get rinsed so that I don't find nasty dishes when I get around to loading the dishwasher later in the day?
Maybe it's as simple as finding small things everyone can do help. . .dylan at 5 should be able to make his bed. . .get dirty clothes in the right baskets. . .set the table at dinner---even my Ty (2) can do that. . .dylan has asked to help fold clothes. . .so maybe I just need to let go of some of the control and decide that the way a 5 year old can do something can be "good enough" (that is my hangup, I like things done MY WAY)
I guess what I'm saying is that I'd love you to pass on anything you find out--cuz I'm still looking for my "spoonfuls of sugar" :)

Something that has helped me is making a list of the things that "need" to be done and then having something I can reward myself with afterward for a half hour or however long. Also, have you ever heard of flylady.net? She has some really awesome ideas that I am trying to implement. Hope this helps!
