Mylie: "Mom, will you please sign here?" She hands me a clipboard with paper and pen.
Me: "Sure."
Mylie: "Now will you write your daughter's name?"
Me: I write a fake name. "Lexi."
Mylie: "Now will you draw a picture of her? I'm going to sew her some clothes, and I need to know how she looks."
Me: I draw the picture and say nothing.
Mylie: "Okay. Thanks. Now will you write what size of clothes and shoes she wears so I will get it the right size?"
Me: "Okay."
And then she's gone for awhile.
Mylie: This time she is carrying a 3-ring binder full of piano music. "Neighbor, will you please play the piano for me for church on Sunday? I'm going to be gone."
Me: "Sure. Set it on my counter."
And then she's gone for awhile.
Mylie: "Neighbor, can you watch my baby today while I go on vacation?" She holds her baby doll out to me.
Me: "Sure. Where are you going? By the way, here's your piano music back."
Mylie: "Thanks. And we're going to Kemmerer and Wyoming. See ya!"
And then she's gone for awhile.
Mylie: "We're back!"
Me: "Your baby was good. Did you have a good vacation?"
Mylie: "It was so fun."
Me: "What did you guys do?"
Mylie: "We went to Pizza Hut, then we went in the water snorkeling, then we went to the library."
Me: "Wow! Sounds like fun!"
She takes her baby and then she's gone for awhile.
Mylie: Clipboard in hand again. "There is going to be movies for the next three tomorrows. If you want to go, you need to sign up."
Me: "Oh, what are the movies called?"
Mylie: "The first one is called Wolves and Vampires. The next one is Vampire Love, and the last one is Monsters and Love." (Do you think she's seen or heard something about Twilight?!"
Me: I sign up, of course.
And then she's gone for awhile.
I don't type this because it's extraordinary--I'm writing it because I want to remember a typical hour with Mylie Jo. I never knew it could be so easy to play with a child! And I hope Mariah likes to "play" with me while I'm getting ready, because once Mylie is gone, I'm not sure I'll be able to stand the boringness of putting make-up on in silence.
