Wrestling Season

This past January and February, Connor joined the wrestling team. It was such a great experience for him, and I felt so proud of him in so many ways throughout the season. This was his first school sport and his first time wrestling at all. I am proud of him for having the courage to try something new. Going into it, we knew how extremely inexperienced he was, and we both wondered if he would even win a match. He did end up with a winning record, but it was in a couple of his tough losses that I was the proudest of him. He was a fighter, win or lose. He learned about hard work, determination, resilience, winning graciously, losing graciously, self-discipline (he never complained about the 5:45am practices), time management, and many more lessons that will be invaluable to him in his future. He learned that if you want to improve, you have to go full-speed, and his aggression is the one reason he was able to win as often as he did. He gained a respect for the sport and its athletes, and although he still says he's a basketball player, hopefully now he'll never be the type that is constantly talking down about wrestling. (Seems like the ones who do are the ones who never tried it.) I'm so thankful to Coach Martin and Coach Wright for their time, patient teaching, and good example for my son. A kid can never have too many positive adults in his life. All in all, it was a wonderful experience that I am so grateful he has had!
