I grew up in the small town of Cokeville, WY, population 500. I've been asked many times if I liked growing up there. "What is there to do?" people always ask. Well, my answer is always, "I LOVED it!" I planned on moving back there someday, since it was really the best place on earth.
After high school, I went to Laramie, WY, to go to college, and guess what? I LOVED Laramie! My time there was filled with wonderful experiences, and I met so many great people that had a positive impact on my life. I loved the campus, and so many things about Laramie. When I go back there, I always get really sentimental and really miss it, and my time there.
After Tony and I finished school, we moved to his family's ranch in Fort Bridger, WY. And now I LOVE the Bridger Valley! There are so many good people, and I have everything I need here. I love the schools, my ward, my coaching job, having family around, and having a grocery store and a bank just six miles away.
I think all three of these places are wonderful, and so it's strange to me when I hear somebody say how much they did NOT like living in Cokeville, Laramie, or the Bridger Valley. But it also makes me realize that loving where you live may in fact be a choice, not just a result of circumstances. Could it be that we can CHOOSE to love where we live--that we can FIND things to love about it? I believe this is the case.
On a broader perspective, I LOVE living in Wyoming. I love the wide open spaces and friendly, down-to-earth people here. And I LOVE America. We have so many amazing blessing just because we live in this country. I am grateful for those who fight so hard to protect our liberty. This past week, my father-in-law officially announced his candidacy for the office of Governor of Wyoming. He did it because he loves Wyoming. Follow this link and watch the video to hear him talk. I definitely think loving where you live is a choice as well! I don't think I've ever lived in a place I didn't love...which makes me think I'd probably love living anywhere!? Although being so close to family definitely helps! :) And I LOVE that video of Mylie. SO, SO, SO much!! She is so adorable! And I'm sure she'll love that video when she's older...brings back memories of your and Heather's version of "I'm Proud to Be an American." :) (that was you and Heather, right!?) :)
I just watched the video of Ron announcing his candidacy for Govenor of Wyoming. He's an amazing candidate and Wyoming would be blessed to have him in that position.

Taffy, I loved, loved, loved this post. I do believe loving where you live is your choice, but I would love to live in Cokeville again! It holds a very special place in my heart. I almost ache to have my children grow up in the schools we did. Thanks for your post!
